Explore your backyard, visiting these Fleurieu Peninsula attractions
Beautiful wine regions, rolling hills, quaint towns and a famous stretch of beach. There aren’t many places that come to mind that have it all. The Fleurieu Peninsula does. And we’re lucky enough to have team members, our real estate agents and property managers, who can share their favourite Fleurieu things to do.
Summery wines, alfresco cafes & a striking coastline
Less than 30 minutes from Strathalbyn in the Adelaide Hills, you’ll reach Goolwa, one of the most popular beaches in the region. And along the way, there’s Currency Creek in all its wine-loving splendour. The Fleurieu Peninsula is peppered with dozens of small towns with big hearts.
Take a drive along the coast and you’ll experience the laid-back, charming surf vibe of Middleton, Port Elliot, Victor Harbour, and Encounter Bay. As you make your way down the foot of the peninsula, you’ll reach Deep Creek Conservation Park and Cape Jervis – before making your way up to Rapid Bay, Second Valley, Normanville, Myponga (home of Smiling Samoyed Craft Beer) and Carricklinga.
Beaches & water sports
This is the kind of area region where you see what a ‘real’ beach is. Boardwalks, cliffs, seemingly-endless stretches of white sand and sparkling blue water.
Pack the beach bags, jump in the car and head to one of these five beaches:
1. Second Valley
2. Waitpinga Beach
3. Port Elliot Beach
4. Goolwa Beach
5. Blowhole Beach (in Deep Creek Conservation Park) You can do almost any water sport you like in the Fleurieu. For example, swimming, surfing, body boarding, kite surfing and paddle boarding.
Shopping & markets
For those country-charmed shops, Port Elliot is first point of call. This town is an experience in itself, especially their famous bakery. In summer, Aldinga runs the Friday’s After Five Twilight Markets every week. On the first Saturday of each month, punters wander the Fleurieu SA Artisan Markets in McLaren Vale. For you foodies, there’s the Willinga Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning.
Wineries & eateries
Satisfy your summery cravings with Mediterranean fare (fresh seafood, local white wine and a 360-degree beach view) at Port Willunga’s Star of Greece. Go there for sunset, after a day exploring nearby wine and spirits. Some of the popular wineries in the area include Wirra Wirra, Primo Estate, SC Pannell, Coriole Vineyards and d’Arenberg.
The Fleurieu is a big, delicious reason why South Australia is loved for its quality local produce (alongside the Adelaide Hills). It’s one of our state’s most progressive food regions. Thinking about making the move to the Fleurieu Peninsula? Talk to our real estate agents about life in this region. The great part about owning real estate in the Adelaide Hills is having easy access to this stunning part of our state. Enjoy the hills and ocean, all in one day.
