Fun activities to do with your kids this school holidays
With the school holidays coming, it’s a good idea to start a list of things to do in the Adelaide Hills to keep your little ones occupied. While there’s nothing better than sleep ins and lazy mornings, it’s also great to make the most of their time, together as a family.
You can have both, relaxing and adventure days. And on those days you feel like getting out and about, it’s good to have a go-to list on the fridge to help you (and prevent family squabbles). Being in the Adelaide Hills, you’ve got all types of activities all around you.
And with winter well and truly behind us, it’s the perfect time to be adventuring – all these attractions are close to your Adelaide Hills property.
Adelaide Hills school holiday activities
It’s good to define what your family’s idea of adventure is. Do the kids like hiking? Animals? Maybe you’re a foodie family. Write out a few categories to help guide your list-making. Here are a few school holidays activity ideas to do in the Adelaide Hills.
Walk, hike or picnic at Mount Lofty
What better time to wander around the gardens or gullies of stunning Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens. Spring has just sprung and you’ll be in great, colourful company with all the blooms. If you’re feeling energetic, hike Mount Lofty and enjoy those all-encompassing Adelaide Hills and city views.
Pat animals at Hahndorf’s Farm Barn
If you’ve got young children, this is a winner. Who doesn’t love cuddling little baby rabbits and guinea pigs or going on a horse or tractor ride. Watch your little ones learn how to milk a cow and feed lambs. The Farm Barn run ‘A Day at the Farm’ events for the school holidays, so round up the kiddies. It’s oh-so Hills, and oh-so fun.
Go wild at the Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary
Kids can’t stop talking about the animals from the Farm Barn? Give them a different, more wild experience, and take them to Warrawong for their Junior Zoo Keeper Experience. They’ll get up close and personal with animals like gliders, possums, kangaroos, pythons, and parrots. It’s great for children between 6-16 years of age (and the big kids at heart, of course).
Art classes at the Hahndorf Academy
Got a little Picasso in the family? Nurture their creative side by enrolling them into art classes at the beautiful Hahndorf Academy. It’s a fun, educational environment that’s perfect for children of all ages. View the different classes available, based on your kiddies age and interests.
