Fill your weekend with these 5 fantastically Fleurieu summer events

When you’ve got beautiful beaches one way, and the adorable Adelaide Hills on the other, you’re not going to stuck for summer activities. But sometimes, it’s nice to stay close to home and enjoy connecting with (and supporting) your own town.

The communities around Fleurieu Peninsula come to life in the summertime. There’s artisan markets, concerts in wineries, art exhibitions, acoustic Sunday ‘backyard’ sessions and plenty to delight the kiddies. This summer, you might stay in the Fleurieu Peninsula every weekend with your growing ‘things to do’ list.

Let’s get cracking on the top events coming up in the Fleurieu Peninsula.

1. Christmas Twilight Markets, Victor Harbor Yacht Club
December 14th
Round up the family and head on down Victor Harbor beach to peruse market stalls and finish the night off with fish and chips on the sand. These markets are open between 6.00-9.00pm, so it’s a perfect family outing to kick off the weekend. Haven’t finished your Chrissy shopping yet? Do it here.

2. Normanville NYE Pageant
December 31st
What better way to send off 2018 than with your friends, family, sun and beach? Oh, and fireworks, of course. Normanville always does New Year’s Eve in style and this year is no different. It’s a family-friendly, not-for-profit community event that unites locals and tourists in one festive celebration.

3. Indoor Creative Craft Market, Victor Harbor
Every second Saturday
Head back down to Victor between 9.30am – 2.00pm and explore handcrafted gifts, jewellery, organic produce, craft supplies, fresh plants and local produce. It’s the market with a bit of something for everyone. If you’ve got kids who love to draw and paint, they’ll love this.

4. Santos Down Under

This event captures not just our community but the entire country (and world). Our darling Fleurieu is where the first event of the UCI World Tour begins. Make your way down to Port Elliot, Middleton, Goolwa or stay locally in Strathalbyn to watch pro cyclists go by.

5. Fleurieu Film Festival, S.C. Pannell
February 9th
We can’t talk about the Fleurieu without mentioning our world-class wine region, McLaren Vale. But it’s not all bubbly, ladies. Bring the family down to of S.C. Pannell Wines for the film festival that uses art to explore important topics such as climate change. There will be wine for the adults, don’t worry.
