‘Explore’ the charming, historic and expanding Strathalbyn

Situated, ever-so perfectly, between the Adelaide Hills and ocean towns, hugging the Fleurieu Peninsula, the Strathalbyn lifestyle combines country and coast. Few towns can boast a short 30-minute drive to two of South Australia’s most-visited regions – but Strathalbyn does, without the ‘ego.’

This small, sweet country town of 6,500 people is steeped in history and charm. There’s an abundance of open space, where families enjoy large properties, a safe community, and the true meaning of living a laid-back life.

With rolling hills, gorgeous valleys, tall gum trees and ample farming, Strathalbyn is dubbed one of the state’s ‘loveliest country towns.’ Make ‘Strath’, as the locals call it, your next Sunday drive destination.

The lifestyle…

‘Adorable’ will feature in just about every sentence as you’re walking around this town. Classified as a heritage town, Strathalbyn’s must-see attractions include Soldiers Memorial Gardens and the 1919 Children’s’ Bridge.

With over 30 historical buildings, Strathalbyn is best explored and experienced by foot. Wander through the old pubs, the National Transit Museum, antique shops, and new eateries popping up throughout town. Try Appleseed Café and Strath Corner Bakery.

With the Langhorne Creek wine-region a 15-minute drive away, enjoying a nice glass is part of the lifestyle. Bremerton Wines, Bleasdale Vineyards and Lake Breeze Winery dominate that landscape.

Nothing encapsulates a day in Strathalbyn quite like perusing antique collectables, latte in-hand, taking in the communal gardens, picking up fresh herbs at market stalls, and finishing up at one of those classic old pubs where, if the walls could only speak.

The real estate…

As for Strathalbyn house prices, a three bedroom house sits at $330,000. The largest group of people who live in town are families and older couples (19.3%). But don’t assume Strathalbyn is only for families and retirees. The medium age of people living in Strathalbyn is 45. There’s a 2.4-person average per household, with 1,822 families calling Strathalbyn home.

The region is bursting with events, in the same vein as Winter Reds. Handpicked Festival at Lake Breeze Winery is one such example, attracting local and national indie music acts.
