Meet the Team Series: Janelle Owen

Janelle Owen always had real estate in her blood. As a young girl, she’d marvel at her Auntie, wearing beautiful clothes and having a Nokia car phone. It was the 1990’s, after all. Her Auntie exuded success, planting the initial ‘real estate’ seed.

“I thought to myself, one day, that’ll be me…” Janelle said.

And can you guess where Janelle’s Auntie worked? As Principal of LJ Hooker Strathalbyn – recently bought out by First National Nitschke.

Fast-forward a decade and Janelle moved to England to pursue a career in Event Management. However, she started to feel homesick for the Fleurieu Peninsula, a place she adored, and the idea she had flirted with as a young girl. Real estate.

“I started working as my Auntie’s PA and I did that for a few years, where I learned an enormous amount.” This led Janelle to her current role as Property Consultant, where she now heads the First National Nitschke Strathalbyn office.

“I don’t wear stilettos and my phone is a bit smaller, but I love this industry as much as I did when I began,” a wistful but wiser Janelle said.

Janelle’s one of those rare property agents who are true advocates of the region they serve. She lives there, with the community fabric ingrained, and understands local nuances (and frustrations), having spent 30 years of her life in the Fleurieu.

She possesses deep insights into the region, community and where it’s going, in a way your everyday agent doesn’t. Her local involvement extends to the Strathalbyn District Commerce Association, the Community Advisory Panel, and the Strathalbyn Children’s Centre.

Did we tell you she is a Mother of two? And one dog, of course. Janelle stands up for the needs of young families.

Janelle’s relationships are her currency. She’s the kind of agent that clients refer to their friends and family. She loves meeting new people and helping them navigate the, often, treacherous chapter of finding a new home – whether that be upgrading, downsizing or supporting them through less happy circumstances.

Janelle embodies the Strathalbyn lifestyle. Outside of showings on Saturdays, Janelle rounds up the family to work on their three-acre block. This includes all-things gardening, a campfire, and shared meals – with a glass of her favourite Langhorne Creek Sauvignon Blanc in-hand.

It’s the diversity of the region that Janelle loves most. From walking through her hometown of Strathalbyn, taking winter drives to nearby towns to buy flowers from roadside stalls to summer days at one of the world-class Fleurieu Peninsula beaches, she’s certainly created her own ‘lifestyle.’

If you’re looking to buy, sell or rent a house in Strathalbyn or the wider Fleurieu Peninsula, Janelle Owen is the real estate agent for you.
