Adelaide Hills

The best suburbs in the Adelaide Hills Series: Lobethal

Lobethal put the Adelaide Hills on the festive map for its festive spirit. The streets come alive with Christmas lights, hot chocolates, donuts, and holiday treats. But there’s more to Lobethal than its Christmas charm.

Shouldering Woodside, Lobethal is a weekend hotspot for adventuring families. It’s perfectly positioned in a part of the Hills that encourages exploring. On one side, there’s Woodside, Oakbank, Balhannah, and Hahndorf.

Go the other way and you’ll reach Birdwood and Gumeracha. You can also cut through the winding backroads and travel to Lenswood, Summertown, and Uraidla. Lobethal is the adorable, oh-so-Hills town that’s well-connected. It’s one of the most underrated towns to own an Adelaide Hills property.

The Lobethal lifestyle

The Lobethal Bierhaus puts a modern spin on the classic Adelaide Hills pub. A hybrid brewery and restaurant, the Bierhaus oozes a long Sunday social hang out. Come with a group of friends or stop by on a weekend drive.

Fancy a wine instead? You can’t miss the best tasting experience in the Adelaide Hills: Golding Wines. With a tasting room, restaurant, vineyard and surrounding gardens, it’s no surprise Goldings holds the ‘best Hills cellar door in 2019’ title.

Nearby Tilbrook Estate was ravaged by last year’s wildfires. They’re rebuilding a zero-net carbon cellar door that’s powered by the sun. Support the reconstruction by picking up a bottle from Tilbrook Estate if you see one.

Hügel Wine Bar & Kitchen is an example of a new wave of eclectic, concept eateries that are emerging in this region. It’s a wine bar with tapas-style bites and shared plates. Emma & Ivy, a plant shop turned coffee and wine bar exudes all-things Adelaide Hills.

Pizza and wine nights, live music and workshops, and a revolving local-inspired menu, experience the loving Lobethal community at Emma & Ivy. There are two primary schools in town: Lobethal Primary School and Lobethal Lutheran School. Some of our real estate agents don’t live far away, too.

The real estate

Now you’ve got a taste of the Lobethal lifestyle, learn about the suburb’s real estate profile. A three-bedroom house in Lobethal sells for around $329,500 – one of the most affordable prices across the region. An average house is on the market for around 151 days.

Older couples and families lead the key demographics (24%), slightly ahead of established couples and families (20%). With more experimental restaurants and wineries popping up in Lobethal, it’s set to attract a younger cohort of residents. It’s a good place to look for real estate in the Adelaide Hills.
