Where to live if you’re moving into the Adelaide Hills

There’s the central business hub that unifies the Hills, Mount Barker. The adorable, farm-frilled surrounding town of Strathalbyn. And of course, the magnificent tree-lined streets of countrypolitan Stirling.

One thing’s for sure. No matter where you live in the Adelaide Hills, you’ll join a community that proudly celebrates the more elegant pace of life, with an abundance of nature at your doorstep.

We know, it’s hard to pick between the Adelaide Hills townships, so we’re going to give you a sense of life in five of our favourite areas.

Adelaide Hills real estate top picks

Alright, let’s kick things off with the most well-known of all Hills towns. There’s a good reason for this. Stirling & Aldgate. Think towering old trees, lush quaint gardens, gourmet food markets, and the grandest of homes you’ll ever see. Only 15 minutes from the city, Stirling and Aldgate are extremely desirable suburbs for Adelaide Hills property. Whilst property is typically higher in price, there are surrounding towns that are more affordable, like Bridgewater, Mount Barker & Hahndorf.

Mount Barker

If you want to be in the centre of it all, Adelaide Hills’ style, look for property in Mount Barker. It’s got shopping, schools, restaurants and cafes, walking trails and parks. And just 10 minutes down the road, there’s Hahndorf. While this German village needs no introduction, if we’re going to say anything about it, it’s this. Yes, it’s got that German influence, but it’s so much more. If you’re a foodie, you’ll be right at home here.

Oakbank & Balhannah

You know you’re in the Hills when you’re in these two towns. When you hear the term ‘Sunday drive’, it suggests a long stretch of road through this region. You’re going to inspect a big property in Oakbank or Balhannah… with a deck, farm views, and silence that city dwellers could only ever dream of.

And there’s a scattering of smaller centres that we haven’t even touched on, like vine-covered hillsides of Uraidla and Summertown. If you’re moving up the hill to Mount Barker, Littlehampton, Nairne or over to the Fleurieu Peninsula and into Strathalbyn, we can help find your dream Hills house. It’ll have all your city mates pondering a lifestyle change.
